Challenger is considered dual-purpose, combining moderate amounts of alpha-acids with a kettle hop aroma. Its fruity, almost scented aroma, with some spicy overtones, makes this a versatile kettle hop for all types of beer. It blends well with other English varieties and is sometimes used as late hop or dry hop, although full use is not made of its higher alpha content when used in this way.
