American bittering hop with mild aroma, good storability, and blends well with most aroma hops.
Galena is a bittering hop bred from open pollenation of Brewer’s Gold in the late 1970s by th state breeding program in Idaho. It went on to become a major player in U.S. production (mainly in Washington, though smaller amounts are also grown in Oregon and Idaho) after its release in 1978 and now represents about 28% of U.S. hop acreage.
Galena is an excellent high alpha variety with balanced bittering properties and an acceptable aroma profile. Characterized by a strong, somewhat floral, pleasantly hoppy aroma with a relatively low oil content.
