Selected from a USDA cross between a daughter of Brewer’s Gold and a high alpha-acid male with good storage properties. Released for general cultivation in 1982, this variety is grown mainly in Washington and Oregon states in the United States (and in Idaho to a lesser extent), as well as in the Hallertau region in Germany. Nugget is a pleasant, mild hop that contributes good bitterness and, with late addition, sometimes an interesting herbal aroma contribution. It is characterized by a low proportion of cohumulone in the alpha acids and good storage stability. It grows vigorously in all areas in which it generally yields well; however it is subject to the occasional wide fluctuations in yield. Sometimes used for dry hopping and for essential oil/emulsion.
