The triploid daughter of the English fuggle variety. Released in 1976 from the USDA breeding program and well established in the U.S. industry. Willamette is characterized by a low alpha acids content, mild aroma (mild pleasant, and slighty spicy), and medium cone yields. It is more difficult to grow than most varieties; however, it is still widely grown in all U.S. growing areas and has largely replaced Fuggle.
