St. Peter’s Oktoberfest
This is a homebrew competition that will be held in conjunction w/ North Wales Day, Saturday October 7, 1-4pm. (Overall Oktoberfest event is 11:30-6pm.)
-The competition is limited to 10 contestants (German-style beers only), and there are still a few slots open. It may be a challenge to lager at this late stage, but there are many other German styles that use ale yeast, such as weissbier, dunkel weiss, altbier, and kolsch, for which you still have time.
-Judging is popular vote by the general public, each taster gets one vote. Tasters will buy a batch of five samples for $5, and can buy the second round of five as well then, but only get one ticket with which they will vote.
– you provide a 5gal batch, whether kegged or bottled, chilled & ready to serve, and whatever vessel you might use to keep it cold as necessary.
-They provide ice. No electric. They provide tents, tables, cups etc, and they handle ticketing, ID, donations, liquor laws. You will only be serving ticketed patrons w/ hand stamps/wrist bracelets; easy to identify.
-There is no entry fee.
-If you are unable to man your beer station, a volunteer will happily serve it for you for part/all of the time if needed.
-Brewers may bring brews to share while manning their station at the event. Just avoid dipping into your 5gal sample much, to maximize your exposure to the voter base. (Bring surplus to consume!)
-The greater Oktoberfest event has German food & beer for purchase, a ROAST PIG is served from 11:30 until it runs out, at least one German oompah band, food tent, fun areas & games for your kids, including a bounce house. Meet your friends there for lunch before the competition!
-The greater North Wales Day event closes Main Street and lines the streets with vendors & entertainers. It’s a good family-friendly day all around with adult libations. (Plan ahead for arrival/setup, leave time to drop off supplies then go park elsewhere.)
-Prizes include a $99, 15-gallon Dad’s Hat Rye whiskey barrel from Keystone Homebrew Supply (that’s us!), two $25 gift certificates to North Wales Beer, bragging rights and possibly other prizes still TBA for winners.
